Touchscapes is a series of works exploring spaces that touch can create. Alone and together with groups and performers, Fält explores the dialogues, listening and imagining together through drawing. Shared spaces and drawings create soundscapes that are recorded and later on, composed to become a part of a larger body of work.

1. part: A performance ( a commissioned work for SLURPS – Kuopio 2024)

In this work, 4 people meet around the same table for the first time. For about half an hour, they outline a map together, the working of which is based on verbal, movement-oriented instructions. They suggest ways to use the space between us, meet, touch, and listen to the other. Supporting another, moving hands and thinking together create a drawing that asks what kind of traces are left by a listening, tender, caring, inviting touch?

You can follow the drawing and this meeting from the side, but only the drawing group can hear the soundscape created by the event.

Teoksessa ryhmä ihmisiä kohtaa saman pöydän ääressä. He tapaavat tässä kokoonpanossa ensimmäistä kertaa. Noin puolen tunnin ajan he hahmottelevat yhdessä karttaa, jonka työstäminen perustuu sanallisiin, liikelähtöisiin ohjeisiin. Niissä ehdotetaan tapoja käyttää välissämme olevaa tilaa, kohdata, koskettaa, sekä kuunnella toista. Toisen tukeminen, käsien liike ja yhdessä ajattelu synnyttävät piirroksen, joka kysyy millaisia jälkiä jättää kuunteleva, hellä, huolehtiva, mukaan kutsuva kosketus?

Piirtämistä ja henkilöiden kohtaamista voi seurata sivusta, mutta vain piirtävä ryhmä voi kuulla tapahtuman synnyttämän äänimaiseman.

Koskettavia keskusteluja

D5 galleriassa on esillä kokoelma eri materiaalein toteutettuja piirroksia, sekä valokuvia jotka dokumentoivat pitkäkestoista osallistavaa prosessia. Kaikki esillä ovat teokset ovat syntyneet tarpeesta jäljittää toisen kohtaamista, syvälle katsomista ja kuuntelua, sekä pohtia kollektiivisen kehon käsitettä.

Paperista, kankaasta, puusta, hiilestä ja liikkeellisistä ehdotelmista muodostuva kokonaisuus on syntynyt 60+ työryhmän kanssa tulevaisuutta tutkivissa työpajoissa ja performansseissa, sekä kahdenkeskeisissä piirrosdialogeissa D5 – galleriassa.

Fält tutkii piirroksen kuuntelevaa otetta, moniaistimellisuutta ja vuorovaikutteisuutta, sekä jaettua tilaa jonka yhdessä piirtäminen synnyttää. Hän pohtii ja ehdottaa tapoja antautua kohtaamiseen ihmisten tai muiden lajien kanssa. Teokset syntyvät halusta oppia katsomaan toisin ja tutkimaan hiljaa harkiten, pysähtyen miettimään omaa reaktiotamme, ajatuksiamme ja suhtautumista toiseen, tuntemattomaan.

Millaisia ovat tapamme katsoa, tapamme koskettaa ja kuinka tutkia siitä jäävää jälkeä? Millaista yhdessäoloa ja tiloja yhdessä piirtäminen luo?

TOUCHSCAPES

The D5 gallery presents a collection of drawings made using different materials and photos documenting the participatory process of making. This is a collection of works born from the need to trace an encounter with another and observe and listen carefully to the nonverbal dialogues.

The works consist of paper, fabric, wood, charcoal, and verbal suggestions or scores, created with 60+ working groups in the Shared Futures – workshops and performances, as well as in one-on-one encounters.

Fält is exploring the listening, multimodality, dialogue and the shared space that the drawing is creating. They reflect and suggest different ways to surrender to encounters with humans or other species. The works are born from the desire to be more aware of our ways of looking and aim to learn to explore quietly and thoughtfully, pausing to understand and be more aware of the reactions, thoughts and attitudes towards the other, always somehow unknown.

What are the ways we are looking, the ways we are touching and how to read the trace it leaves? What kind of togetherness and shared spaces the act of drawing can create?

3. Part:

Osallistava teos perheille –

A participatory piece for the families (scroll down for English)

Annantalo, Annankatu 30, Helsinki

Koskettavia keskusteluja on  tila, jossa perheet voivat kohdata ja luoda yhdessä äänimaiseman ja piirroksen.

Teokseen voi osallistua 15-20 minuutin ajan. Sopiva osallistujamäärä on 1-4 ihmistä kerralla. Teoksen äänimaisema syntyy piirtäen erilaisilla arkisilla materiaaleilla/esineillä, jotka ovat tuttuja kotiympäristöstä ja puistoista. Materiaaleista jää jälki paperiin ja mikrofoni tallentaa äänimaiseman, jota voi kuunnella kuulokkeiden kautta. Yksinkertaiset välineet sopivat kaikille ja työskentely on sanatonta. Piirtäjät voivat leikkiä, kokeilla ja luoda yhdessä ilman tarvetta tuottaa tai tietää mitä ovat tekemässä. Tallennan äänet ja kuvaan piirrokset jos osallistujien luvalla.  

Teos on osa laajempaa projektia joka liittyy piirrettyihin keskusteluihin ja sanattomaan kohtaamiseen. Syntyneistä piirroksista, jotka osallistujat antavat luvan tallentaa syntyy kolmiulotteisia, kosketettavia teoksia.”
